Ask Aberdonians which sport is most associated with the city and you may find a host of conflicting answers.

The Dons, The Dandies, The Reds or just plain Aberdeen Football Club might be the first call of many – with a history going back more than 100 years to 1903 there are plenty of Scottish football’s most famous names associated with the Club – Craig Brown, Willie Miller, Alex McLeish Gordon Strachan and of course the much loved manager of the 1980s - Alex Ferguson.

Fans – and those with just a plain nosy disposition - can take the weekly behind the scenes tour of Pittodrie stadium taking in the dressing rooms, pitch and trophy room (book in advance; tours are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays at 10:30am).

Thankfully, success on the pitch smells sweet for The Red Army as the stadium was built on the site of the police horses’ ‘dung heap’!
